Passion Project

A passion project that I can share with the world

As far as I can ever remember I’ve always loved pirates, from watching pirate movies to dressing up as one every halloween. Once the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise came out it ignited my love for pirates even further and gave me an outlet. Fast forward many many years later after working for five years as a brand designer I was so focused on creating corporate work, I was yearning for something where I could take away the perimeters and perfection and be creative without bounds. That’s when I decided to start a passion project - Peculiar Pirate. I thought I could do something I love doing but don’t get a chance to do a lot of as I took on more brand identity / web design responsibility - illustration. I was able to combine my two favorite things illustration and pirates! I always felt that the pirate merch out there looked so outdated, typical and boring, I wanted to marry my own style of bold, whimsical, a little punk edge but fun with a pirate / nautical aesthetic. While it started off as stickers and a couple shirts, just so I could get my stuff out there for people to enjoy, it’s blossomed into a full and fun side project. While it stays just a side project for me to do on my free time, it’s allowed me to not only reinvent and hone into my own illustration style and make ultra cool stuff, but also for me to connect to the Orlando community, particularly the other artists and designers of Orlando! I’ve had the great opportunity to connect with some brilliant designers and formed some awesome friendships along the way.

Below is a taste of the illustration style I’ve created for the brand as well as a sense of tone in the brand. You can also check out my website at peculiarpirate.com
